Coordinador

Doctor en Ingeniería de Telecomunicaciones (1996) por la Universidad de Vigo, el Prof. Dr. Fernando Aguado es actualmente profesor titular (catedrático acreditado desde 2016) en el Departamento de Teoría de la Señal y Comunicación de la Universidad de Vigo, y profesor adjunto en NTNU (Noruega) apoyando el ‘Small Satellite Programme’ desde 2020, a través de un convenio entre la Universidad de Vigo y las universidades NTNU. Además, es responsable desde 2016 de Proyectos Espaciales del Centro Aeroespacial de Galicia (CINAE). Sus principales áreas de interés son la ingeniería de sistemas para comunicaciones espaciales de pequeños satélites y constelaciones de pequeños satélites.

Como responsable de actividades espaciales de la Universidad de Vigo y CINAE, podemos encontrar entre los proyectos que coordinó: XaTcobeo, HUMSAT, FemtoXat, el sector B del satélite SERPENS, DustCube, LUME-1 y WiPTherm. 

XaTcobeo, el primer CubeSat gallego y español, fue desarrollado en colaboración con el Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA) y lanzado en febrero de 2012. En cuanto al proyecto HUMSAT y el Cubesat HumSat-D (lanzado en noviembre de 2013), este contó con el patrocinio de la ESA a través del Programa GEOID (Genso Experimental Orbital Initial Demonstration). También participó en la iniciativa ‘Fly your Satellite’, promovida por la ESA.  A su vez, Fernando Aguado ha sido el coordinador del Proyecto FemtoXat (1/3 unidad CubeSat) y del sector B del satélite brasileño SERPENS, promovido por la Agencia Espacial Brasileira, el cual fue lanzado en septiembre de 2015, dando lugar al segundo satélite HUMSAT. Además, fue el investigador principal y coordinador del desarrollo del concepto de operación del satélite DustCube, seleccionado por la ESA dentro de la Misión de Impacto de Asteroides (AIM). Más adelante, estuvo encargado de desarrollar el proyecto LUME-1, englobado dentro del programa FIRE-RS, financiado por Programa SUDOE-Interreg de la Unión Europea y lanzado en 2018 (con el satélite todavía en pleno funcionamiento). Actualmente es el responsable en la Universidad de Vigo del proyecto WiPTherm (programa H2020-FETOPEN), con un presupuesto total de 2.315.000 €. (Universidad de Vigo 463.000 €) y un horizonte temporal que abarca 2019-2022. Como responsable de los proyectos de espacio en CINAE, Prof. Aguado además ha coordinado el diseño de dos CubeSat 6U para aplicaciones marítimas y de seguimiento de aviones, así como para comunicaciones Machine to Machine (M2M).

Fue premiado como Ciudadano Distinguido de Vigo en 2012 por el proyecto Xatcobeo, además de ser reconocido como Pontevedrés del año 2012, en la categoría de Ciencia y Universidad. Desde 2018, Aguado es miembro de pleno derecho de la Academia Astronáutica Internacional (IAA).

Coordinator

Doctor in Telecommunications Engineering (1996) from the University of Vigo, Prof. PhD. Fernando Aguado is currently Associate Professor (Full Professor accredited since October 2016) at Signal Theory and Communication Department at Vigo University, and adjunct professor at NTNU (Norway) supporting the ‘Small Satellite Program’ since 2020, through an agreement between the University of Vigo and the NTNU universities. In addition, he has been responsible since 2016 for Space Projects at the Galician Aerospace Centre (CINAE). His main areas of interest are systems engineering for space communications of small satellites and constellations of small satellites.

As responsible of space activities at the University of Vigo and CINAE, we can find among the projects he coordinated: XaTcobeo, HUMSAT, FemtoXat, sector B of the SERPENS satellite, DustCube, LUME-1 and WiPTherm.

XaTcobeo, the first Galician and Spanish CubeSat, was developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) and launched in February 2012. Regarding the HUMSAT project and the CubeSat HumSat-D (launched in November 2013), this was sponsored by ESA through the GEOID Program (Genso Experimental Orbital Initial Demonstration). It also participated in the ‘Fly your Satellite’ initiative, promoted by ESA. At the same time, Fernando Aguado has been the coordinator of the FemtoXat Project (1/3 CubeSat unit) and sector B of the Brazilian satellite SERPENS, promoted by the Brazilian Space Agency, which was launched in September 2015 giving rise to the second satellite HUMSAT. In addition, he was the principal researcher and coordinator of the development of the DustCube satellite concept of operations, selected by ESA within the Asteroid Impact Mission (AIM). Later, he was in charge of developing the LUME-1 project, encompassed within the FIRE-RS program, funded by the SUDOE-Interreg Program of the European Union and launched in 2018 (with the satellite still in full operation). He is currently the responsible of the WiPTherm project (H2020-FETOPEN program) at the University of Vigo, with a total budget of 2,315,000 €. (University of Vigo 463,000 €, 2019-2022). As responsible for space projects at CINAE, Prof. Aguado has coordinated the design, manufacturing and integration of one 2U CubeSat, and the design of two 6U CubeSats for maritime and airplane tracking applications as well as for Machine to Machine (M2M) communications.

XaTcobeo Project was awarded as Distinguished Citizen of Vigo in 2012. Prof. Aguado was recognized as Pontevedrés of the 2012 year in the category of Science and University. Since 2018 Prof. Aguado is a Full Member Academician at the International Astronautic Academy (IAA).
